When was the last time you were in your attic. If you are like most people – you may have only ever seen your attic once or twice, if ever. Most of us don’t think about our attic and what happens up there. But our attics hold the answers to many issues that we as home inspectors look for.
For instance, we say that a roof is a lot like a person – you can’t tell much about it from the outside, because its the inside that counts. You can have a beautiful looking roof, but inside the attic we may find all sorts of leaks that can’t be seen from the roof itself.
Then there is ventilation. You may have all of the “right” ventilation in your attic, but if there is mold in there, then the venting isn’t working. This is common when insulation blocks vents, when there is excessive leaking, or if the attic simply needs a different ventilation system.
Then there are pests such as mice, birds, bats, racoons, squirrels, and almost anything else you can think of. So don’t ignore your attic – but don’t climb up in there if you aren’t comfortable either. Contact us for a full inspection!
